ain, rain, rain. And snow! We decided to have the day in as much doors as possible. So we went to the Midlands Motor Museum near Bridgnorth. It was very interesting - mostly old sports and racing cars and motor bikes. Some lovely old cars, Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Jags, yummy.
hen we went on beyond Bridgnorth to the RAF Cosford Aerospace Museum. Old planes, new planes, helicopters, rockets and stacks of memorabilia from the wars and also of commercial passenger flying, a display of uniforms and mockups of cockpits etc from BOAC. It was interesting but so cold in those enormous hangars. The coldest it has been, I think. We got lost again on the way home!
oday, I fell in love with Warwick Castle! No, a place, not a man. It stopped raining so we drove to Warwick, a wonderful mediaeval castle in terrific repair. It was actually lived in until quite recently when it was taken over by Madame Tussaud's. The State Rooms have been decorated by them for a Royal house party in Edwardian times. The figures are all taken from the same guest list so the people at the party are all authentic. It is beautifully done and gives life to the display. The rest of the castle contains armouries, dungeons, torture chamber and a haunted tower. Beautiful.
e spent so much time there that we only had time to look at the outside of Kenilworth Castle, of Sir Walter Scott fame. It is a ruin, but apparently one can still see the State Apartments and other buildings. Maybe another time.
