Christchurch College, Oxford

Drop Cap poke to Neil last night - my results are through - two Distinctions! Only one year to go. There was a package for Geoff from the Royal National Hotel. His bracelet has been found. He was lucky, I think.

Drop Cap e set off this morning for Oxford. Being New Year's Day and a bank holiday we had a lot of trouble finding food. Not a coffee bar or teashop. We had sandwiches with us but wanted drinks. Geoff had a slight hypo while we tried. We spent a lot of time driving around the town looking for and at the old college buildings - very lovely, but not all that interesting really. We went through an exhibition called "The Oxford Story" which was very good, even incorporating the smells of the period in a series of tableaux depicting various historical events in Oxford during the centuries.

Drop Cap e were a bit late starting off for Winchester and it was dark and raining when we got there. Had a lot of trouble finding the guest house but it was worth it when we did. Stratton House, a large Victorian pile, used to be a school, according to mine hostess who couldn't have been more welcoming. They had a black and white cat who came to call and slept on our bed and an enormous hearth rug of an Irish wolfhound which was very gentle. The rooms were huge, Geoff had one to himself, called St.Giles, ours was called King Arthur. Ours had a shower, but the bathroom was just along the hall, three large baths, 2 loos and a shower. Plenty of heat and comfy doonas on the bed. We had a chinese meal for dinner and so to the most comfortable night's sleep for ages.
