Manila

At Manila on the way Home

Drop Cap p with the lark, (or should I say sparrow, in London?) and off to Gatwick. The plane was late taking off, late at Frankfurt, very full and uncomfortable. I hate Jumbos. We had eight hours to kill in Manila. Geoff managed a little sleep on the floor of the departure lounge but Mac and I just wandered around aimlessly through the Duty Free shops, craft shops and all the rest. A very persistent airport photographer insisted on taking our photographs and then sold the result to us for five pounds sterling. I paid him in coin, which I had a purseful of but no notes and he kept coming back wanting notes. He said the bank would not accept coins but too bad, they are legal tender and I had no notes. What a pest!

By the time we were called for our flight I was at screaming point. Manila airport makes Kingsford Smith look really good. Then we boarded our DC10 for home. It was much more comfortable than the 747. The seats seem more roomy and there is certainly more legroom. Seven hours and we arrived at Mascot. Feeling pretty groggy by this time. Chris and Dick Phillipps met us at the airport and drove us home. It's all over - until the next time.
